A Mansfield family turned a traumatic hospital stay into an act of community kindness by raising more than £1,300 to support young patients at King’s Mill Hospital.
On Mothering Sunday, 14-month-old Brianna McLafferty was rushed to A&E and subsequently admitted to Ward 25 at the Sutton hospital, where she was diagnosed with immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), a rare blood disorder. Inspired by the kindness of the ward’s staff, parents Sean and Elizabeth launched a fundraiser to provide essential items — such as pyjamas and underwear — for other children admitted to Ward 25.
Their efforts raised £800 to buy new clothing for children on the ward. In addition, two £250 donations from Mansfield Rotary and Mansfield Building Society were made directly to the hospital to help sustain the initiative in the future.
